Polyphosphate
Polyphosphate (polyP) is a biopolymer of at least three and up to many hundreds of orthophosphate ions (Pi) chained together by the phosphoanhydride bond (P–O–P). Present throughout the tree of life, polyP is enzymatically produced and degraded by all living organisms.
April 2023: We are currently funded by NSF to assess the role of polyP production and cycling in marine ecosystem functioning (NSF OCE-2245249). This work is in close collaboration with the group of of Dr. Julia Diaz at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. For previous work related to polyphosphate, see also our Phosphohydrolases project page.
April-May 2023: Graduate student Emily Waggoner participated in the BIOSWOT-Med cruise to collect samples for her Ph.D. project and for the NSF polyP project. Congrats Emily!
May 2023: We are looking for a postdoc to join our group to work on the NSF polyP project. You can apply here: https://arizona.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/4/home/requisition/16220?c=arizona
